LOW IMPACT LIFE: LAUREN OF FREAKER USA

Freaker USA is the global leader in moist handshake prevention and more recently has set their sights at shaking up the import-dominated sock industry with their Kickstarter for Freaker Feet!
For the second installment of Low Impact Life we hopped on the horn with Lauren Krakauskas, Director of Some Things at Freaker, to find out how she does more with less.
What’s something you always carry on your person?
Always Freakers. I’m making it rain Freakers wherever I go.
Also, I always have a bottle of cayenne pepper on me. It goes on absolutely everything I eat; great on desserts too. And food bars! Being chronically forgetful doesn’t just mean leaving my keys in the door. If anybody else is afflicted with forget-me-nows, they’ll know you sometimes forget to eat. Find a good food bar, stock up like it’s Y2K, and try to have them on you at all times.
What’s something you hate throwing away?
I don’t throw away that much. i’m kind of a hoarder. I like other peoples trash. I try to upcycle stuff whenever possible, love Goodwill, flea markets, and things that have already been used. Shopping this way is super cheap and it’s super nice giving it all a new home. Second hand everything.
Whats your biggest concern about the environment?
I’m kind of a junkie for international relations so I’d have to say it’s overseas manufacturing and the lack of regulations. It’s still just not something people think about. You have no idea whats going into that product. Without regulations, it’s so tough to know. Besides regulations - there’s also always the issue of shipping it.

What is the most durable thing you own?
My dog.
What’s your worst environmental bad habit, something you’d like to work harder on?
I do have a habit of ordering stuff online. But I also think about how I don’t drive everywhere too - I don’t live in an area with public transport. So I end up ordering a lot on Amazon. I try hard for Made in USA and sometimes the product that I want isn’t something I can just go to Target for.
What’s the best made thing you own?
Recently I spent a long time finding a dog bed that was made in America. It can be tricky to shop right for your pets but it’s just as important. It was a pretty extensive search.

When you forget your ____________ your day is totally screwed?
I’m really forgetful but I never let it ruin my day. I’ve forgotten everything at some point. Once you forget it, and keep living - you realize everything is fine. I don’t really need anything.. except my dog.

Freaker revolutionized the world of beverage insulation and now they’re coming for your feet! They’ve got some amazing rewards totally exclusive to the last few days of their Kickstarter.. SO DON’T MISS OUT!
